The topics make up the bulk of discussion in the Codex Leicester: the nature of water in its motions, the effects of its currents, and the meeting of rivers and their ebb and flow. Leonardo describes a variety of conditions for the confluence of rivers, and thereby illustrates the procedures he follows. He saw the effects of rivers coming together, but to learn the causes of this compound motion in nature, he collected information on many different aspects of the phenomenon.
